Windline Pacific's Woodworks News & Articles

Dispatch from Hamakua 04/17/09

We have been very fortunate the last few months since I updated our Homepage in January. The garden we put in is producing all sorts of wonderful greens and our chickens started laying eggs. Never having been a farmer this is all a bit of a miracle to me. Weatherwise we have finally gotten some rain which has been absent in any volume for the last few years so everything is green this spring, delightful! The shop has stayed busy although things did slow down considerably November through January and we are looking at a very mellow summer. I’ve developed a parrallel business to fill in the gaps, doing woodwork restoration and refinishing, and as a result have some really interesting projects in the shop, including a classic Hawaiian furniture set from the 1930’s and the replacement of the stock of a 1920 Winchester hunting rifle. I’d love to hear the stories this wonderful old firearm could tell.
We are working hard at using recycled materials for our shipping and have been taking calls from folks interested in our work who need questions answered. Feel free to call! Likely you will get our message machine as I don’t keep a phone in the shop, and I will get back to you .
Weddings and anniversary’s seem to be driving purchases with our Lazy Susans and Serving Boards still moving steadily. I recently bought an old lathe, or rather the pieces of one in a box, and am slowly putting it back together with an eye towards learning how to turn. I’ve avoided this over the years as I have been warned by many woodworking friends that once you start it becomes addictive. We have lots of bits and pieces of beautifull wood lying around that will be perfect to learn on and as I improve we will no doubt be offering varoius usefull items on our site.
Sarah’s photography business has been developing nicely and the recent weddings she has done have been outstanding (http://sarahanderson.zenfolio.com). If it can be said that a photographer has found thier voice she has certainly found hers.
Having our kids back home has turned into more fun than I could have imagined. Daughter Nani (21) is just about to finish college and then will be off into the world for further adventures and son Winter (24) has settled in and is a pleasure to work with. As the saying goes “he has our back”. We all get a surf in together once in a while and it just doesn’t get any better than that. This interlude, just at this time has allowed our little family to reinvent ourselves for this next chapter of our island’s, our country’s and the worlds history. We wish everyone out their in the big world the best and aloha untill my next dispatch, Dave Anderson
