Windline Pacific's Woodworks News & Articles
Dispatch from Hamakua 12/04/08
Aloha Friends, I started woodworking in 1971 so I could build a boat and sail off for high adventure and parts unknown. I succeded at that and never imagined that almost forty years later I would still be in the shop working with wood. On the way I met my wonderfull wife and had two terrific kids, finally washing ashore here in Hamakua surrounded by forests of some of the most beautiful woods in the world. The kids are grown up now and have returned from college. They have put a garden in the back yard and we have eight chickens from which we expect to get eggs any day. My daughter Nani, who has always loved to perform, is singing with our band and son Winter has started a surfboard repair service at the side of the wood shed. We are finding that these challenging times are bringing our family closer together and providing us with an opportunity to get resourceful and be creative. Speaking of our band we do a Halloween Party for our community every year and my wife Sarah, a photographer, posts her images of many of the terrific costumes on a commercial website. They can be seen at: http://sarahanderson.zenfolio.com.
In the shop we’ve worked up a new serving board design in the form of a Honu (turtle). I’ve wanted to do these for a long time and between being busy and not having just the right design I’ve held off. I finally got it right. We have them in two sizes with the larger available with the side fins scooped out for condiments. They come in both mixed woods and Koa with highlights.
Right now we are finishing up three custom hat orders and are sending out a lot of lazy susans. As always we stop taking Christmas orders on the 16th of December for the U.S. mail service and the 18th for UPS so if you have the itch to give a gift from us it would be best to go for it.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and the very best in 2009. we will check back in after the New Year has arrived. Aloha and all the best, Dave Anderson
